He was born in Çamlıdere district of Ankara in 1969. He completed his education (primary, middle and high school) in Ankara. After graduation from Middle East Technical University, Department of Mining Engineering in 1991, he completed his master’s degree in 2001 and PhD in 2016. His professional career started at 1991 at General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises ‘Middle Anatolia Lignite Establishment as mining engineer. He worked in the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, General Directorate of Energy Affairs, Renewable Energy Resources Department between the years of 2000 to 2007. In 2007, Dr. Erdogan started to work as Branch Director of the Fossil Resources at the Head of Energy Resources and Statistics Department.
He worked as Head of Strategy Management Department in the MENR’s Directorate of Strategy Development between the years of 2012 to 2018.
Dr. Erdogan was appointed as the Acting General Manager of the Mining Affairs General Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on 04.10.2018 and after completing the establishment of the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs; he was appointed as Acting General Manager of the General Directorate till 07.12.2018 Having successfully completed the Sustainable Development Course given by the Regional Development Centre (REC) in Hungary and Italy in 2007,Erdogan served as a member of INOGATE Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy Working Group between the years of 2008 to 2010 and as a member of Global Methane Initiative Coal Subcommittee between 2010 to 2014. Since 2017, he has been the Vice President of the Sustainable Energy Committee, Group of Experts Coal Mine Methane within the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Dr. Erdogan was appointed as board member of General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises on 01.26.2018. He was appointed as the Director of Research Institute of Rare Earth Elements on 07.01.2019.
Dr. Erdoğan was assigned as General Director of Turkish Coal Enterprises and Chairman of the Board. He is married and has 3 children, He is fluent in speaking in English and has advanced level of proficiency.
